| On the basis of performance contracting, HOCHTIEF Energy Management will be cutting the energy costs of Staatstheater Hanover by 26 percent a year. The two companies have concluded a corresponding agreement which runs for the next ten years and covers the Staatstheater’s workshops and its three theaters - the Opera House, Schauspielhaus and Ballhof. HOCHTIEF will also ensure that CO2 emissions are cut by an annual 1,060 tons. It was agreed that no details of the contract’s value would be released. In practice, performance contracting works as follows: HOCHTIEF Energy Management plans, builds and operates the energy plant of a given company or public facility. In doing so, HOCHTIEF guarantees its client a specific energy saving for an agreed period. The project is refinanced out of the funding saved. HOCHTIEF Energy Management also receives a service fee. Furthermore, the client’s energy consumption is reduced or can be more easily calculated, resources are saved through the use of modern plant technology and, by reducing CO2 emissions, a valuable contribution is made to environmental protection. In the case of Staatstheater Hanover, the measures which HOCHTIEF Energy Management will take to achieve the agreed energy savings include conversion of the existing heating systems, optimization of the lighting systems, and the integration of modern building management technology in the respective properties. HOCHTIEF will also be centrally monitoring, controlling and documenting the operation of the heating and air conditioning systems, so that energy is used more efficiently. |
